Trash Pickup Day 17: picking up trash on the other side of the road

I have been picking up trash on a road with a sidewalk on only one side of the street. Because it is a busy street, So far I have stayed on the sidewalk and not picked up trash on the other side of the road. Today, though, I brought my mom with me and we picked up trash on the other side of the road. Here are our findings!

Day 17 (Sunday, 4/30):

What I collected:
-1 gigantic piece of Styrofoam (broken up into 8 large chunks)
-1 math assignment
-1 school hall pass
-1 Styrofoam block
-1 plastic glove
-3 taillights
-2 reflective road markers
-5 takeout bags/boxes
-10 food wrappers
-9-10 cans
-8-9 large pieces of paper
-2 face masks
-15 cigarettes
-13 small pieces of paper
-1 empty container of marijuana
-1 tennis ball, cut in half
-2 glass bottles
-4 broken pieces of glass
-1 broken lighter
-17 small pieces of plastic
-1 reusable plastic mug
-2 plastic straws
-1 washcloth

<-- This was the piece of math homework I found. I could see all the writing on it. I'm not sure how it got on the side of the road, or the story behind it. Maybe it just fell out of someone's folder, or the person was worried their parents would see it because they got a bad grade?

<--This was the huge piece of Styrofoam my mom and I found on the side of the road. We broke it up into many little chunks and then put it in our trash bags. As we were breaking it, many tiny pieces of plastic broke off, and I was worried about that at the time. However, I realize now that those tiny pieces are better than what would become of this Styrofoam if it were to be broken down by wind, rain, or other natural forces, and left in the wild for animals to possibly choke on.

<--This was the second container of drugs I have found so far on my project. It's chilling to me to see these, because it just shows how prevalent drug usage is in our society.

What my mom collected:
-1 mascara wand
-1 spring
-3 paper takeout food bags
-8 fast food wrappers
-7 soda cans
-4 lids
-6 paper cups
-13 small pieces of paper
-8 large pieces of paper
-1 medium piece of Styrofoam
-1 math assignment
-1 large orange juice container
-3 gloves
-17 cigarettes
-24 small pieces of plastic
-14 medium pieces of plastic
-6 large pieces of plastic

We filled up two whole bags of trash!

On the way back:
-2 leis
-5 soda cans
-7 fast food wrappers
-11 small pieces of plastic
-9 cigarettes
-4 pieces of paper
-3 pieces of plastic packaging

<-- I found out from a friend that on Friday, a nearby middle school had a dance that was tropical themed and handed out these leis.
